Abstract(s)
Neste estudo pretende-se avaliar as características
do stress parental experimentado por mães de crianças
com Síndrome Nefrótico. Para o efeito utiliza-se a versão
portuguesa do Parenting Stress Index (PSI) de R.
Abidin (1983, 1990). Este instrumento é constituído
por várias Subescalas agrupadas em dois Domínios –
Criança/Pais – e visa a avaliação da intensidade do
stress que ocorre na relação pais-criança. As participantes
ABSTRACT: This study analyses the characteristics of parental stress experienced by mothers of children with Nephrotic Syndrome. The Portuguese version of Parenting Stress Index (PSI) from R. Abidin (1983, 1990) is used. The scale is composed by several subscales distributed by two Domains – Child/Parent – and it aims to assess the magnitude of stress in parent-child system. The participants are distributed by two groups: Group 1 (G1) – mothers of children with Nephrotic Syndrome (n=27); Group 2 (G2) – mothers of children without physical disease (n=27). The results show that mothers of G1 significantly differentiate from mothers of G2 in the Total of Stress, in the two Domains (Child/Parent) and in specific subscales. The discussion of the results takes in account not only the disease characteristics but also available information about other diseases obtained with the same instrument.
