Abstract(s)
This paper presents the experimental paradigm underlying the process dissociation procedure (PDP) in memory research. It explains in detail the experimental procedure and how to compute the controlled (explicit recall) and automatic (familiarity) estimates underlying memory judgments. Some examples of the generalized used of the PDP to other judgments besides memory are also considered. Variables that moderate the relative weight of one or both of the components on judgment are identified and briefly described. Finally, a dual-process approach underlying the PDP is discussed and contrasted with alternative views.
