Abstract(s)
Self-injurious behaviors and suicidal ideation represent phenomena of great complexity and high relevance in the adolescence period, with bad results in the adolescent's development. The main objective of this study is to analyze a relationship between family functioning and the consumption of alcohol and cannabis with the adoption of self-injurious behavior and the presence of suicidal ideation. In the present study 103 adolescents participated, aged between 18 and 21 years old, to whom the following instruments were applied: Scale of Evaluation, Cohesion and Flexibility (FACES IV) (Olson, 2011); ASSIST (OMS); Inventory of Self-injurious Behaviors (ICAL) (Duarte, Gouveia-Pereira & Sampaio, 2017); Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (QIS) (Ferreira & Castela, 1999). The results revealed that the more balanced the adolescents' family functioning, the lower the adoption of self-behavior and the presence of suicidal ideation in the young. Regarding the consumption of substances, the results do not indicate the existence of statistical differences, neither in terms of self-injurious behaviors nor in suicidal ideation between the group of consumers and the group of non-consumers of alcohol and cannabis.
