Abstract(s)
Neste estudo, participaram 89
E as
ABSTRACT: Empirical evidence reveals that interparental conflict impacts in the romantic relationships of young adults, in terms of romantic attachment, relationship quality and the adoption of positive dyadic coping strategies. However, there are still few research studies, that jointly analyse the impact of these variables on the couple. The of the present study aimed to analyse in the Portuguese context, the role of interparental conflict within romantic bonds, in the quality of the romantic relationship and in the adoption of positive dyadic coping strategies in young adult couples. In this study, 89 heterosexual couples with ages ranged between 18 and 30 participated, most of them as single and without children. The results demonstrated that there are not significant differences between men and women in each couple, regarding the intensity experienced in interparental conflict, however, there are significant differences in how guilty is perceived and in the effectiveness strategies adopted to deal with interparental conflict, in which women are the ones who feel the guiltiest and also the ones who adopt the most of effectiveness strategies. The secure attachment didn’t mediate the relationship between interparental conflict and the relationship quality, but the secure attachment was positively and significantly related to the quality of the couple's romantic relationships. Then, the positive dyadic coping strategies and a secure attachment are protective factors for the quality of the romantic relationship, while guilt represents a risk factor. The results are discussed considering the theory, while some limitations are pointed out, some proposals for future studies and present the clinical implications.
