Ao conjunto de teorizações e estudos sobre as representações
acerca da doença, e dos seus processos,
pode atribuir-se a designação Psicologia da Doença.
Este domínio integra-se na Psicologia da Saúde, uma
vez que visa a aquisição de representações de
processos de saúde, mas fundamenta-se na reflexão e
na operacionalidade das significações individuais
sobre a identificação, as causas, a duração e as consequências
da doença, assim como dos meios para a
confrontar, para atingir este objectivo.
Nesta análise, estes esquemas da representação da
doença e do seu confronto, e a consequente dialéctica
de adesão vs. não-adesão ao tratamento médico, são
enquadrados em três orientações psicopatológicas:
cognitiva, somatoforme-descritiva e somatoforme-desenvolvimentista.
ABSTRACT: The ensemble of theorizings and studies about the representations of illness, and its processes, may be called Illness Psychology. This domain integrates Health Psychology, since it aims at the acquisition of representations of health processes, but it uses the reflection and the operationality of individual meanings of the identification, the causes, the consequences, and the timetable of the illness, as the means to cope with it, in order to attain this aim. In this analysis, these schema of representation of illness and its coping, and the resulting dialectics of compliance vs, noncompliance to medical treatment, are set in three psychopathological frameworks: cognitive, descriptive-somatoform and developmentalsomatoform.
