Abstract(s)
MacArthur que analisa o estatuto social subjetivo, o Children´s Perception of
ABSTRACT: The beginning of adulthood represents an important transition period with some impact on the mental health of young people. The impact of perceived interparental conflict on the mental health of this population seems to be a relevant topic in the study of young adults due to the consequences that have been discovered throughout published studies. Having said that, the present study aimed to understand the relationship between the level of mental health of young adults and the level of perceived interparental conflict, also analyzing the relevant sociodemographic factors and understanding the possible connection of the relationship in this relationship. A sociodemographic questionnaire, the MacArthur scale that analyzes subjective social status, the Children’s Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale (CPIC) and the reduced version of the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-5) were applied to a sample consisting of 278 young adults. The results revealed that young adults with lower levels of interparental conflict perceived better levels of mental health than their peers. It was also found that the subscales of interparental conflict presented were important factors associated with the level of mental health of young people. The moderating role of the interparental conflict subscales in the relationship between the exemplar and mental health was also tested, however this relationship was not proven. The importance of considering the parental subsystem and parental history in intervention with young adults is reinforced.
