Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Parenting styles play a crucial role in the development of psychopathologies in young adolescents. Understanding the mechanisms through which this influence occurs is essential. This study aims to investigate the role of parenting styles in the development of psychopathologies in adolescents, with a focus on mediating variables. It comprises a sample of 200 participants aged 16 to 21, where issues related to attachment and emotional regulation emerge as mediating variables. The main findings reveal that the authoritarian parenting style, both from mothers and fathers, is positively associated with anxiety and stress. Additionally, the permissive parenting style of mothers is also positively linked to stress. The father's permissive parenting style is associated with difficulties in emotional regulation and attachment problems, which, in turn, are related to perceived stress. Emotional regulation difficulties and attachment issues serve as significant mediators in the causal relationship between the father's authoritarian parenting style and perceived stress and anxiety among the participants. In summary, this study highlights that parenting styles, particularly those of fathers, play a critical role in emotional regulation difficulties, attachment issues, and the development of psychopathologies in young adolescents. The results contribute to a more precise understanding of emotional and psychological development during adolescence, emphasizing the crucial importance of considering both the mother and father as significant influences in the emotional and psychological development of their children.
