Abstract(s)
ABSTRAT: The paradigm underlying the rebound effect (i.e., the higher subsequent manifestation of an undesired thought that one tries to avoid through mental control), is presented in this article. Some of the original studies associated to the paradigm are presented, as well as some more recent examples. Different versions of the paradigm and moderator variables of the effect are also addressed. Lastly, the main theoretical explanations that can be found in the literature for the occurrence of the rebound effect are presented with a brief reference to the empirical support of each one.
