Abstract(s)
The period called Estado Novo has been extensively studied by many historians because it was a time that changed the portuguese society. The political ex-prisoners carry scars from the fascist dictatorship that are still present in their lives today. This study aims to investigate the evocation of autobiographical memories of political ex-prisoners of the fascist dictatorship in Portugal, and their relationship with the underlying emotional processes of the political incarceration experience. We applied clinical scales such as Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y), New Multidimensional Depression Assessment Scale (NMDAS), and experimental tasks such as the Autobiographical Memory Task. The sample included 17 subjects, 4 females and 13 males. The most noteworthy conclusion of this study is that the Prison theme appears more frequently than any other, regardless of the emotional valence of the stimulus word. It is also the theme which appears more often in more than 50% of the words of the Autobiographical Memory Task.
