Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The study I commit myself to do is regarding a qualitative research and the main goal is to understand and describe the quality of clinic experiences made by therapists regarding the religious beliefs of their clients in therapeutic context. This study is based on the Amedeo Giorgi phenomenological method with the intention of studying intentional phenomenon’s experienced by different individuals to reach a final description with all the invariable and essential constituents of this subjective experience. The sample is made up of four participants, two women and two men aged between 46 and 61 years old who had the experience of confronting themselves with the religious beliefs of their clients. The results show that the way the four therapists live and deal with their client’s religious beliefs are similar and were found six essential constituents of this phenomenon- experience Religion in therapeutic context. This way it´s possible to verify that all of them keep an Opening mind/Respect position with others and with their own way of being in the world. They see Religion as a dimension of human race and an emotional support/coping strategy. They consider that religion can be a personal projection due other significant living experiences, that sometimes in psychotherapy it’s fundamental the self-questioning and they all consider that the different beliefs and ideologies, between client and therapist, constitute barriers to the therapeutic relationship.
