Abstract(s)
The main purpose of the present study was to analyze the relationship between Mindfulness (Brown & Ryan 2003), Basic Psychological Needs (autonomy, competence, relationship) and Motivational Self-Regulation (Deci & Ryan, 2000). The sample is composed of 200 students from the 4th, 5th and 6th years of schooling, coming from colleges in the Lisbon area. To measure the variables, three instruments appropriately adapted to this population were used: Mindful Awareness Attention Scale (Lawlor et al., 2014); Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (Chen, et al., 2015) and Self-Regulation Questionnaire (Ryan & Connell, 1989). Exploratory factual analyzes revealed adequate psychometric qualities for all these measures. The results showed that Mindfulness is positively and significantly related both to a more autonomous regulation and to the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. In addition, the results of this study demonstrate that the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs and the levels of Mindfulness can significantly interact in anticipating a greater autonomous regulation. In the end, the practical implications of these results are discussed.
