Abstract(s)
In this sense, meeting the needs of caregivers becomes essential. The aim of this study is to determine whether the caregivers of cancer patients, who feel their needs satisfied, have lower levels of depression, anxiety and stress when compared to another group of caregivers who do not feel their needs met or partially fulfilled. In total, 49 individuals aged 18-84 years participated in the study. For the present study, a sociodemographic questionnaire was used, the Portuguese version of the “Family Inventory Needs” (FIN) and the “Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (EADS-21) scale”. The needs considered more important by family members are related to the patient's well-being and less with issues related to the caregiver's own well-being. It is concluded that individuals who feel their partially satisfied or unsatisfied needs present higher values of depression, anxiety and stress. Therefore way, the development of systemic interventions in the field of cancer disease is essential, focusing not only on the patient but also on his family.
