Abstract(s)
portugueses, do HEMA-Revisto.
The motives why people engage in activities may have an impact on their well-being (Huta, 2016). These motives consist of seeking pleasure and comfort (hedonic orientation) and/or seeking to use and develop the best in oneself (eudemonic orientation). Both orientations relate with subjective well-being (Huta & Ryan, 2010) while subjective well-being is influenced by personality (Diener, Oishi, & Lucas, 2003). The main objective of this thesis was to find a suitable solution for a sample of Portuguese adults, of HEMA-Revised. The HEMA- Hedonic and Eudaimonic Motives for Activities is the instrument used to assess these orientations and it has shown two possible factor solutions. It has also been verified the relation with subjective well-being variables, and it was explored the relation with personality traits. The sample had 472 participants, aged between 18 and 64 years (M = 34,37; SD = 11,3) of both genders (F = 384; M = 88). HEMA-R exhibited an acceptable but poor factorial structure using a tri-factor solution (hedonic confort, hedonic pleasure and, eudaimonia), but just when the sample was divided into students and workers. HEMA-R correlated positively with positive affect in both samples, and with life satisfaction in the sample of workers. All three factors of HEMA were positively correlated with some personality traits. This study is the first to correlate orientations with personality traits using the HEMA-R.
