Abstract(s)
Idade e o Género revelaram-se preditores significativos (p<0,05) da frequência de AF;
ABSTRACT: The promotion of Physical Activity (PA) has been making part of Government Strategies. The “Desafio do Coração” (DC) it is an event organized by the Portuguese Cardiology Foundation that aims to raise awareness for the PA practice. The present study aimed to characterize the population that attends to this event concerning the PA practice. Biometric and clinical data of the participants and selfefficacy was assessed. 355 participants were inquired, ages between 18 and 93 years (M = 57.3, SD = 18.7). Data were collected in four editions of DC, between 2011 and 2015. Result’s show that more than half of the participants practice PA with some regularity (1 to 4 times a week). The Body Mass Index (BMI) is significantly related to the total frequency of PA (p<0.01); Age and Gender have proved to be significant predictors (p<0.05) of PA frequency; significant differences between the frequency and duration of PA during and two months after the DC were found and finally, self-efficacy was not related with the total PA duration (p> 0.01). This results were in general, consistent with those reported in the literature on these initiatives, suggesting that those who participate in these events have already acquired regular habits of PA. Adjust this type of event to the stage of behavior changing of participants in order for them to reach the target audiences for which they are directed is required.
