Abstract(s)
The promotion and protection of breastfeeding remains necessary and social support, specially, from the partner, is considered one of the determinant factors for the success of breastfeeding. This exploratory investigation aims to investigate men's attitudes towards breastfeeding. The sample consists of 310 men, over the age of 18, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and a scale of attitudes towards breastfeeding, built for this purpose. The results reveal significant differences between groups in the variables age and existence of children in the cognitive and affective components of attitudes, significant differences in the cognitive component in marital status variable and significant differences in the affective component in terms of the number of children. Men whose children were breastfed have values above the average in the cognitive, affective and behavioral components, unlike men whose children were not breastfed, but there are no significant differences. There are also no significant differences in the three components of attitudes between men who had an influence on decision-making and those who had no influence. The influence on decision making is independent of the sociodemographic variables in which men belong.
