ABSTRACT: The establishment and feeling that we have purposes is an important developmental achievement, which serves as an adaptive strategy through all stages of our lives. However, the way we explore those purposes and the actual content of these objectives and process is what distinguishes us and makes all unique. The current dissertation aims to explore the relationship between hedonic and eudaimonic orientations as defined by Huta & Waterman (2014) work, and the purpose of life in these three important facets: the sense of purpose, the pathways to purpose (proactive engagement, reaction to significant life events and social learning), and purpose orientations (prosocial, financial, creative and personal recognition) in a sample of portuguese population. As main results it was possible to perceive a significant relation between eudemonic motives with purpose, proactive and reactive exploration forms, and the pro-social and personal recognition orientations, important to reflect on strategies to increase the levels of well-being.
