Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT:The Perceived Organizational Support was defined by Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchison and Sowa (1986) as the belief that individuals have that their organization value their contribution and are concerned about their well-being. The same authors have structured an organizational support scale, in order to assess employees beliefs about the support given by the organization (Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchison, & Sowa, 1986). The purpose of this study was to contribute to the Portuguese adaptation of Perceived Organizational Support Scale of Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchison and Sowa (1986) by version consisting of 8 items. This scale was created in order to assess employees' beliefs about the support given by the organization. The final total sample has 635 employees of Portuguese public universities. It was possible to identify a factor solution composed of two factors, affective component and a cognitive component. Analyses of internal consistency showed acceptable values, so that measures provided by the Portuguese version can be considered reliable.
