Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: This study was carried out to explore the relations between Suicidal Ideation, Family Function and Social Support, and consider wheter there are Transgenerational patterns of Suicidal Ideation. To make this possible, we inquired a sample of 124 adolescents from three Schools in the municipality of Cascais county schools, with ages between 14 and 20 years, and 202 adults, parents of the adolescentes, with ages between 29 and 68 years. They were asked to answer a set of scales: Family Functioning Scale (FACES IV) (Olson, 2011), Satisfaction Scale with Social Support (ESSS) (Pais-Ribeiro, 1999), Social Support Appraisals Scale (SSA) (Antunes & Fontaine, 2005) and Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (Ferreira & Castela, 1999). The results obtained showed that all these dimensions are interrelated, although differences have arisen between the two sample groups. With regard to Transgenerationality of Suicidal Ideation, we can see that the Suicidal Ideation parents correlates with Suicidal Ideation of children from support of that for literature. In the sample of adolescents was also observed that both the Family Functioning as the social support and communication are good protective factors against the emergence of suicidal ideation.
