Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The present study aimed to investigate the existence of a possible relationship between the differentiation of self in women and their sexual functioning. Simultaneously, it sought to ascertain the mediating role of dyadic coping in the relationship between the differentiation of self and female sexual functioning. This study included 304 participants who identify as female, are over 18 years old, and are in a romantic relationship. The results evidenced that the differentiation of self is related to sexual functioning in the factors of emotional reactivity, emotional cut-off, and fusion with others. In contrast, there is no relationship between the I position factor and the female sexual functioning. The results showed that the relationship between emotional cut-off and female sexual functioning, and the relationship between fusion with others and female sexual functioning are mediated by positive dyadic coping and negative dyadic coping. The results are discussed in terms of the differences between the intrapsychic and interpersonal levels of differentiation of self, while limitations are pointed out, future studies are proposed, and clinical implications are presented.
