o 3º ciclo do ensino regular.
Emotional Availability of Parents (LEAP), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and
Adolescents (ERQ-CA) e Kidscreen-27.
As raparigas apresentam menos
expressiva (no contexto familiar) e a reavaliação cognitiva (no contexto escolar) mediaram
adolescentes.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to explore the perception of children related to the emotional (un)availability of parents and the understanding associated with the use of emotion regulation strategies in young adolescents, with results associated with the subjective multidimensionality of quality of life related to health, and in different contexts. Considering that the study on youth quality of life related to health and positive affect needs further study and investigation. Specifically, it was intended to understand whether emotional regulation helps to explain the association between the emotional (un)availability of parents perceived by children and their quality of life for health. The presented study included 202 adolescents aged between 12 and 17, attending the 3rd cycle of regular education. These answered the following self-report scales: Lum Emotional Availability of Parents (LEAP), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA) and Kidscreen-27. It was found that girls show more expressive suppression at home compared to boys. Children of married/cohabiting parents suppress their emotions at home less and have a better quality of life compared to children of divorced/separated parents. Girls have less perception of parents' emotional availability compared to boys, and boys have a better quality of life for health than girls. It was also found that there are no differences in emotional regulation depending on the context. Finally, the results indicated that perceived emotional availability is positively associated with a better quality of life related to health. Furthermore, it was found that expressive suppression (in the family context) and cognitive reappraisal (in the school context) partially mediated this association. These results have important implications for both practice and research, highlighting the importance of parents' emotional availability and the role of emotional regulation in improving adolescents' health-related quality of life.
