Abstract(s)
The present study aims to analyze the relationship of Grit, Locus of Control and Self-Regulation with the Performance of the cadets, as well as explore the moderation effect of Personality Traits in these relations. With this purpose we hypothesized: (1) Grit shows a positive relation with Performance; (2) the Internal Control Locus has a positive effect on Performance levels, unlike the External Control Locus; (3) Self-Regulation shows a positive relationship with Performance; (4) 5th grade students have higher levels of Grit, Locus of Control and Self-Regulation than 1st year students; (5) the Personality Traits moderates the relationship between Grit, Control Locus and Self-Regulation with the Performance. The study sample analysed 95 participants aged between 18 and 29 years old. In order to evaluate each of the variables, we used the Grit-S - Short Grit Scale (Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews & Kelly, 2007), BEEGC-20 - Generalized Expectations Scale Battery (Palenzuela, Prieto, Barros & Almeida, 1997), the MAI - Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (Schraw & Dennison, 1994) and the BFI-10 - Big Five Inventory - 10 Item Short Version (Rammstedt & John, 2007). The results demonstrate that only hypothesis 4 was partially supported, revealing the 5th year students higher levels of self-regulation than the 1st year students. The study’s limitations were debated also as suggestions for future studies in the end of the dissertation.
