avaliar o vínculo humano-animal, foi utilizada a escala Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale
IV Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the symptoms experienced during the grieving process after the loss of a companion animal, as well, the influence that attachment has on this relationship. The sample consists of 286 participants, aged between 18 and 78 years who answered an online questionnaire about the reactions to the loss of a companion animal. In order to assess the symptomatology experienced after the loss of a companion animal, the following scale was used: Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) adapted to portuguese: Escalas de Ansiedade Depressão e Stress (Ribeiro, et al., 2004). To assess the reactions resulting from grief, the Pet Bereavement Questionnaire (Hunt, & Padilla, 2006) scale was adapted for Portuguese language. In order to assess the human-animal bond, the Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale (Johnson, et al., 1992) was used, already adapted by Miranda (2011). The results indicate that the human-animal bond is associated with the symptomatology experienced by the individual, that the reactions experienced by the individual in the grieving process are related to depressive symptomatology and that the cause of death of an animal is related to the experience of feelings of guilt and anger.
