Educação parental com famílias maltratantes : Que potencialidades?

| dc.description.abstract | O mau trato infantil assume, pelas consequências individuais, familiares e sociais, a curto, médio e longo prazo, um papel preponderante no âmbito da proteção à infância e, constitui, por isso, uma preocupação social e política premente. Os dados do sistema protetivo português apontam para taxas elevadas de reabertura dos processos de promoção e proteção, na sequência da reincidência dos comportamentos maltratantes. A maioria das intervenções propostas neste âmbito foca-se no apoio familiar e parental, hipotetizando que mudanças na parentalidade poderão dirimir a reincidência deste fenómeno. É neste contexto que os programas de educação parental, pelas potencialidades que lhes têm sido evidenciadas na investigação desenvolvida noutros países, têm assumido uma importância crescente na intervenção para a mudança dos comportamentos parentais e da relação pais-filhos. Em Portugal, a educação parental aplicada a contextos de vulnerabilidade familiar e social tem despertado o interesse da classe política e atores sociais, nomeadamente aquando da definição de políticas de intervenção social, assumindo, atualmente um papel pertinente na prevenção do mau trato infantil. O presente artigo pretende refletir sobre o papel da educação parental no âmbito da intervenção protetiva, evidenciando o impacto positivo que uma intervenção desta natureza poderá imprimir às famílias referenciadas como maltratantes. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | Child abuse attains, by its individual, family and social consequences, in the short, medium and long run, a leading role in what concerns child protection, and it is therefore becoming a pressing social and political concern. The data of the Portuguese protective system draw attention to the high rates of reopening of promotion and protection processes mainly because maltreatment behaviour recidivism. A great number of interventions that are purposed focus on family and parental support, on the assumption that changes in parenthood may reduce maltreatment recidivism. It is under these circumstances that parental education programs, by their potential that has been highlighted through research developed in other countries, have been assuming an increasing importance in the intervention for the change of parental behaviour and parent-child relationships, in the sense of positive parenting. In Portugal, parental education connected to social and family vulnerability has attracted the attention of politicians and social professionals, namely in the definition of social intervention policies, and is achieving, at present, a leading role in the prevention of child abuse.
