Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Although the investigating work around therapeutic benefits and its contribution from “Doutores Palhaço”, in hospital humanization context, the literature, especially in Portugal, is still scarce when it comes to a deeper approach of the possible therapeutic benefits that the clown archetype could bring to the subject, in group dynamic context. The main objective of this study is to access the understanding of the individual implications –personal and emotional – of the participants, during a “Clown Language” Workshop, as well as understanding the kind of connections that could be suggested by the participants that establish bridges to possible therapeutic aspects. To do so, we accessed the descriptions of the subjective experience of four participants during the “Clown Language” Workshop, through qualitative interviews of phenomenological nature, having them audio taped and later transcribed and analyzed according to the Método Fenomenológico de Investigação em Psicologia. The “Clown Language” Workshop derived in a personal and emotional challenge to the participants giving it a self knowledge potential; significant aspects of the self-other relationship were raised; making it possible to the participant an intimate contact with itself, through the “eyes” of the other (the group) and the exposure of its personal weaknesses, during the exercises/dynamics; the group provided feelings of cohesion, belonging and self acceptance, enabling an emotionally benefic openness; the group made the participant´s contact with more intimate and unexplored emotions easier; although inclusive, giving the study´s restrictions, with the “Clown Language” Workshop, the importance of group, as well as the emotional expression, came up as possible elements that could be therapeutically beneficial.
