Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT:The authors present the results related to the application of Índice de Stress Parental (portuguese version of Parenting Stress Index de R. Abidin, 1983) to four groups of parents of children with Emotional Problematic (n=15), Obesity (n=16), Chronic Renal Disease (n=16) and Without Physical or Psychological Problems (n=l5). Following a previous study (Santos, 1994) with parents of children with others diseases (Cystic Fibrosis and Celiac Disease), presently we aim to study the answers given by parents of children with Obesity and Chronic Renal Disease, comparing them with the answers from the other groups. We verify that although the Obesity group does not differ from the healthy one, the Chronic Renal Disease group differs from it in Total of stress, in the two Domains (Child and Parental) and also in some subscales. As in the previous study, parents of children with Emotional Problematic continue to present the major number of stress areas, when compared with the group Without Problems. The results are discussed taking into account the different characteristics of the groups. Key words: Parenting stress, obesity, chronic renal disease, children.
