Abstract(s)
aplicado o questionário, traduzido para a língua portuguesa, Discrimination and Stigma Scale
ABSTRACT: Stigma and mental disorders have been correlated in most literature. Due to the actions of activist movements and individuals with and without mental illness, the stigma surrounding it has been decreasing. The pandemic also played a fundamental role in the world's perception of mental illness, highlighting the importance of considering it through experience and testimony, promoting a change in perspective. This stigma, socially perpetuated, leads to ostracization, which in turn negatively impacts the individual's life in several dimensions. This is why it's so important to study this topic and understand what actions are most effective in preventing it, as vast literature still describes stigma against mental illnesses as something socially deeply rooted. Thus, the objective of this dissertation is to delve deeper into how stigma and discrimination affect individuals who experience mental illness, meaning how stigma continues to be felt and in which dimensions of a person's life it's most significant. The questionnaire, translated into Portuguese, the Discrimination and Stigma Scale (DISC-9), was applied to thirty individuals with experience of mental illness. The results of this study demonstrate a substantial relationship between stigma and mental health, revealing the deep and complex nature of this issue, influenced by cultural, contextual and social factors. It is necessary to implement interventions that promote mental health literacy and address gender inequalities still present in society, especially in the school environment
