Domínios de investigação, orientações metodológicas e autores nas revistas portuguesas de psicologia: Tendências de publicação nas últimas quatro décadas do século XX

Classificam-se os domínios de investigação, os
métodos e os autores de 2070 artigos publicados
durante as últimas quatro décadas do séc. XX em oito
revistas portuguesas de psicologia (Análise Psicológica;
Cadernos de Consulta Psicológica; Psicologia;
Psicologia, Educação e Cultura; Psicologia: Teoria,
Investigação e Prática; Psychologica; Revista de
Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação e Revista
Portuguesa de Psicologia) e confrontam-se os dados
obtidos com as orientações temáticas e metodológicas
dos artigos indexados na PsycINFO.
Conclui-se que a investigação publicada negligenciou
o estudo dos conteúdos nucleares (processos
psicológicos básicos), centrando-se predominantemente
na psicologia geral/psicometria e nas áreas de aplicação.
De modo paralelo, foram privilegiados os trabalhos
de revisão e síntese da literatura, em detrimento das
investigações de natureza empírica. Estas tendências
constituem as principais marcas distintivas em relação à
produção internacional, tal como esta se encontra
documentada nos registos da PsycINFO.
Os 2070 artigos foram assinados por 3193 autores,
sendo o contributo dos homens superior ao das
mulheres, ainda que na década de 90 se tenha
verificado uma quasi-paridade. Predominaram as
estratégias de “publicação interna”, características de
redes de comunicação científica de fraca intensidade,
embora marcadas por sinais de uma progressiva
cultura de colaboração, expressos no aumento
sistemático de co-autorias.
The domains of research, the methods, and the authors of 2070 articles published during the last four decades of the 20th century in eight Portuguese journals of psychology (Análise Psicológica; Cadernos de Consulta Psicológica; Psicologia; Psicologia, Educação e Cultura; Psicologia: Teoria, Investigação e Prática; Psychologica; Revista de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação; and Revista Portuguesa de Psicologia) were classified and compared with the thematic and methodological orientations of the articles indexed in PsycINFO database. The study main conclusion points to an underrepresentation of core psychology contents (basic psychological processes), whereas general psychology/psychometrics and applied psychology were the primary fields of research. Simultaneously, there is a focus on literature review and synthesis at the expense of empirical research. These trends are the major distinguishing characteristics relative to international standards, as they are documented in the records of PsycINFO. The 2070 articles were signed by 3193 authors. The contributions of men were higher than those of women, despite the quasi-parity in the nineties. Internal strategies of publication – a typical feature of low intensity scientific communication networks – were predominant, though marked by signs of a progressive culture of cooperation, expressed in the systematic increase of co-authorship.

O presente artigo retoma e desenvolve o conteúdo
de uma comunicação apresentada no II Congresso
Hispano-Português de Psicologia (secção História da
Psicologia), realizado na Faculdade de Psicologia e de
Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Lisboa, nos
dias 23, 24 e 25 de Setembro de 2004.
