Abstract(s)
No
Autobiographical memories are a vast subject in the field of research. However, the impact that they have on the construction of the subjects' futures has never been studied. The purpose of this research is to evaluate how autobiographical memories influence the way individuals imagine themselves in the future. The methodology used in the present study was based on the application of clinical scales, these being; the Task "I Am" and "I Will Be"; Emotional Assessment Scale (EAS); Accpeting the Past/Reminiscing the Past (ACPAST/REM); Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI); the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory – Form Y (STAI-Y); Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ). These clinical scales aim to assess the autobiographical memories and determine the domains of personality that influence in a more significant way the construction of self and self image in the future. The results of the study indicate that when a individual (youth or adult) represents his past better, and is characterises him self more objectively and structured in the present, they diminish anxiogenic, depressive, sad, repulsive and fear characteristics, these being emotions, feelings and ways of being associated with negative emotional valences and therefore they increase the characteristics associated with positive emotional valences, such as joy, acceptance of the past, momentary and frequent well-being, among others.
