Abstract(s)
O presente estudo procurou reflectir sobre a
presença da Alexitimia, enquanto variável psicológica
associada ao confronto com o stress, na doença física
crónica que é a Obesidade. Para tal utilizou se um
questionário para a obtenção de dados pessoais e a
Escala de Alexitimia de Toronto (TAS 20) numa
amostra de 80 sujeitos obesos do sexo feminino.
Os resultados obtidos permitiram não só identificm
a presença das características alexitímicas mas
também o seu carácter gradativo na amostra, indiciando
que este fenómeno faz parte das estrategias adaptativas
dos sujeitos no confronto imediato com a sua
condição. Verificou se também a influência da Alexitimia
na amostra através das variáveis idade e nível de
escolaridade; não havendo diferenças significativas da
média dos seus valores relativamente aos três graus de
Obesidade. Relativamente a uma amostra da população
geral, confirmou se haver uma diferença entre os
valores da Alexitimia; sendo significativa a sua presença
na população de obesos reforçando assim o carácter
protector deste fenómeno contra o significado
emocional que os sujeitos experienciam face A Obesidade.
ABSTRACT: The present inquiry on the presence of Alexithymia, psychological alternative associated with the confrontation with stress, in the physical iliness which is obesity. For this purpose a questionnaire was applied to obtain personal data and the Scale of Ale - xithymia of Toronto (TAS 20) in a sample of 80 obese persons of the feminine sex. The obtained results not only allowed to identify the presence of alexithymic characteristics but also its gradual character in the indicated sample, that this phenomena is part of the adaptive strategies of the persons in direct conffontation with their condition. It also has been verified the influence of Alexithymia in the through the varieties age and leve1 of schooling; there were no significant differences in the averages of their values in relation to the three degrees of obesity. As regards a sample of the general population, it has been confirmed that there is a difference between the values of Alexithymia; its presence in the population of obese is signif cant and thus reinforces the protective character of this phenomena against the emotional significance which the persons experience in face of obesity.
