| dc.description.abstract | O suporte social consiste na variedade de recursos fornecidos a uma pessoa pelas outras pessoas. A Escala de Suporte Social do MOS, foi desenvolvida no âmbito de um amplo estudo com pessoas com doenças crónicas, o Medical Outcomes Study ou MOS. O objectivo do presente estudo é estudar a adaptação Portuguesa desta escala numa população idosa. Participaram 225 indivíduos de ambos os géneros, com idade superior a 65 anos, 65,8% mulheres. A escala inclui 19 itens distribuídos por 4 dimensões: Interacção social positiva, suporte social tangível, suporte social afectivo, e suporte social emocional e informacional, para além de um resultado global ou suporte social total. Os resultados do presente estudo mostram boas propriedades psicométricas e uma estrutura e propriedades idênticas às da versão original e às versões anteriores Portuguesas. As diferenças encontradas comparativamente com estudos anteriores sugerem sensibilidade a este grupo etário. ------ ABSTRACT ------ Social support refers to the variety of resources provided by other persons. The MOS social support survey was developed for patients in the Medical outcomes survey. The objective of the present study is to study the Portuguese adaptation of theMOS Social Support Survey with an aged population. Participants are 225 individuals, aged over 65 years, 65.8%females. The scale contains 19 items measuring four dimensions: emotional and informational support, tangible support, affectionate support, and positive interaction, more a total score. Results of the present study exhibit metric properties similar to the original version of the United States of America, and to the previous studies Portuguese European versions. Differences from previous studies suggest that the scale is sensitive to the aged group of the present study. | por |
