A estrutura bidimensional das teorias implícitas de personalidade (Rosenberg, Nelson, &
Vivekananthan, 1968) é revisitada em dois estudos. O primeiro estudo procurou obter as duas
dimensões originais (social e intelectual), replicando o trabalho de Rosenberg e colaboradores. Para
o efeito, traços de personalidade utilizados no estudo original foram traduzidos para português. No
segundo estudo utilizaram-se traços espontaneamente gerados por uma amostra de participantes
portugueses. Assim, o primeiro estudo avalia o impacto de 40 anos de mudanças culturais nas
dimensões identificadas originalmente e o segundo procura ampliar a validade da proposta teórica
original. A análise de dados recorrendo ao Escalonamento Multidimensional e à Análise de Clusters
confirma a actualidade e importância da teoria implícita bidimensional embora sugerindo algumas
mudanças no conteúdo das dimensões avaliativas.
The two-dimensional structure of the implicit theories of personality (Rosenberg, Nelson, & Vivekananthan, 1968) is revisited in two studies. The first study sought to obtain the two original dimensions (social and intellectual), replicating the work of Rosenberg and colleagues. For this purpose, personality traits used in the original study were translated into Portuguese. In the second study we used traces generated spontaneously by a sample of Portuguese participants. Thus, the first study assesses the impact of 40 years of cultural changes in the dimensions originally identified and the second seeks to expand the validity of the original theoretical proposal. Data analysis using the multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis confirms the timeliness and importance of two- dimensional implicit theory while suggesting some changes in the content of evaluative dimensions.
