Kinky e BDSM (IFAKBDSM).
It is known that personality plays an important role in the exploration of sexuality and in the structuring of sexual experiences. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality traits and kinky sexual practices, more specifically on kinky profiles and the discrepancy between kinky fantasies and activities. The sample, consisting of 431 portuguese (18–63 years; M = 29.18), completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and three instruments validated for the portuguese population: the Escala de Atitudes Altruístas, the Big Five Inventory (BFI), and the Inventário de Fantasias e Atividades Kinky e BDSM (IFAKBDSM). The results revealed a high prevalence of kinky fantasies and activities in the sample, with fetishism being the most common. It was found that extraversion and altruism were associated with a lower discrepancy between kinky fantasies and activities. Agreeableness, conscientiousness and altruism showed negative correlations with all profiles. In contrast, openness to experience was positively correlated with all profiles, while neuroticism was associated with submissive, exhibitionist, fetishist profiles, and voyeuristic fantasies. This study contributes to the scientific understanding of kinky practices within the portuguese context and reinforces the importance of clinical approaches that value sexual diversity in a non-pathologizing manner.
