- Abordagem comportamental dum caso de luto patológicoPublication . Nunes, J. SilveiraA typical case of grief reaction is described. After several years of innefective drug treatment, a behavioural approach is used according to Ramsay's technique and a big improvement is achieved. The implications are discussed.
- "Biofeedback" do ritmo cardíaco no tratamento de doentes fóbicos por exposição "in vivo": Algumas conclusões após trabalho de replicaçãoPublication . Nunes, J. SilveiraTen specific phobics improved during a mean of two sessions of experimental treaiment by exposure in vivo in a balanced design. Short- -term results replicated those of a previous study that self-control of heart rate with the aid of biofeedback significantly reduced heart rate during treatment, but this did not hasten reduction of subjective anxiety, nor of respiratory rate or skin conductance responses. An hour's pretreatment training in self-control of heart rate with the aid of feedback had a significant during treatment, but the addition of heart rate feedback to instructions significantly augmented the decline in heart rate. The overall results are discussed and suggestiom for future work are made.
- Um estudo prognóstico em doentes fóbicos tratados por métodos comportamentaisPublication . Nunes, J. SilveiraA prognostic study was carried out in 68 phobic patients treated by behavioural methods. Demographic, clinical and psychometric variables were used as well as life events indexes which were the main point of this research. A correlational matrix and a discriminant function analysis were performed on all prognostic and outcome variables. It was found thaf some of the life events variables were the most powerful prognostic indicators.
- Uso terapêutico do «biofeedback» do E.M.G. do músculo frontal em cefaleias de tensãoPublication . Paiva, Teresa; Nunes, J. Silveira; Teixeira, Jorge; Moreira, Ana; Pargana, OlgaEight patients with tension headache were treated with biofeedback of frontalis E.M.G., four in a true and four in a false condition. Results showed that true biofeedback is more effective than false in lawering frontalis muscle tenson; however, both conditions reduced headache indexes which shows the lack of relationship between muscle tension and clinical simptoms. Other implications are discussed.
