O Mandarim, p r razões biográficas que
podem ser especificadas, marca uma viragem
na novelística de Eça de Queiroz. Faz transição
de uma orientação realista para uma fase
de literatura fantástica e simbolista. O conteúdo
de O Mandarim («matar o Mandarim») é, do
ponto de vista psicótico, uma fantasia de
parricídio, associada a uma temática edipiana
insuficientemente elaborada pelo escritor.
RESUMÉ : Le Mandarin dans l'ensemble de l'œuvre de Eça de Queiroz montre une transition d'une orientation réaliste vers une littérature fantastique et symboliste. Cette transition est déterminée par des motivations personnelles qu'on peut étudier à travers la biographie de l'écrivain. Du point de vue psychanalytique "tuer le Mandarim" est tuer le père, mais chez Eça de Queiroz le thème n'est pas intégré dans une structuration œdipienne personnelle. Suffisamment élaborée.
SUMMARY: The novella The Mandarin by Eça de Queiroz shows a displacement of his former realistfic orientation, towards the fantastic and symbolic novel. The reasons for this displacement can be found by studying the biography of Queiroz. From a psycho-analytical point of view the novella contains a parricidal phantasy, which is not satisfactorily integrated with the oedipal problems described here, or in his other novels.
