Abstract(s)
meios comunicativos importantes. Contudo,
estudos empíricos sobre a comunicação mãe-criança
raramente examinam em simultâneo estes três aspectos
do processo comunicativo. No presente estudo, 52
As crianças do primeiro
Subsequentemente,
Most developmental researchers endorse a multifaceted view of early communication, where language, information-exchange and affective tone contribute concurrently to the ongoing construction of shared meanings. However, empirical studies of mother-child communication have seldom succeeded in simultaneously treating these aspects of the communication process. In this study, 52 mother-child dyads were filmed during semi-structured play at home. Data from three independent coding procedures (speech acts, information content and affective states) was merged on the basis of onset time. Cluster analyses using these merged indices revealed three primary communicative styles. Children in the first cluster were orienting maternal behaviour to the activity. Children in cluster two were involved in the play activity. Finally, children in cluster three presented an ambivalent communication style. Subsequently, observer based attachment measures were related to the child communication styles. Discriminant function analyses showed that cluster one children presented the highest values on the exploration-proximity balance scale. These children balance their exploration activity with looking to mother; a pattern which is also visible at the communication level. Taken together these findings provide evidence for a link between mother-child relationship and diversity in
