- Cognitive domains affected by cancer treatmentsPublication . Anjos, Pedro Miguel Abrantes; Lemos, RaquelABSTRACT Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, cancer is one of the main causes of mortality globally. Over the years the prevalence of cancer has increased and has raised concerns regarding the quality of life and survival of patients. Cancer Related Cognitive Impairment (CRCI) refers to the cognitive symptoms associated with cancer treatment, and it is estimated that affect 61% of the patients with cancer. With the different results reported over the years related to CRCI, some of them inconclusive, it becomes necessary to synthesize the various outcomes of those studies. Objective: Systematically review the literature to answer the question “What cognitive domains are most affected by cancer treatment?”. Method: A systematic search was conducted through the databases MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and EMBASE. Results: A total of 5191 records were identified and after the screening process, 99 studies were included in the systematic review. Conclusion: The overall incidence of CRCI ranged from 5% to 69% across the studies and executive functions was the most frequently reported cognitive domain affected.
