Os Emblemas são definidos, caracterizados em termos da sua utilização, circunstâncias em que ocorrem, origem, como é que o acto foi incorporado no repertório da pessoa, como é que o acto se tornou um Emblema, e são diferenciados das outraS categorias. Apresenta-se uma breve discussão sobre as diferenças e semelhanças entre os Repertórios de Emblemas. Finalmente, apresenta-se uma metodologia para o estudo do Repertório de Emblemas de qualquer cultura. ------ ABSTRACT ------ The different categories of Nonverbal Behavior - Emblems, Conversation Signals, Regulators, Manipulators, Emotional Expressions - defined by Ekman are presented. Emblems are defined, characterized in terms of their usage - circumstances surrounding their occurence - origin - how the act became part of the person's repertoire - coding - the relation between the act and the meaning - and history - how an act became an Emblem - and distinguished from the other categories. A brief discussion conçerning the differences and similarities between the Repertoires of Emblems is made. Finally a methodology for surveying the Repertoire of Emblems of any culture is presented.
