ABSTRACT: Problem: The diagnostic instruments of personality disorder are still mostly tailored to the adult population and there is a gap at the level of studies in the younger population. Concerning this matter, this study focuses on adapting a personality organization interview, which derives from a recent study of Ammaniti et al. (2011) based on an adolescent sample, to the Portuguese population. Objective: The aim is to adapt the interview to the Portuguese population, check the diagnostic properties compared to the original interview and compare two populations, clinical and community. Method: It consists of a descriptive, exploratory and comparative qualitative research. The sample comprises a total of 44 participants, of which 22 belong to the clinical population and the remaining 22 belong to the normative population. The participants filled up a sociodemographic questionnaire and held a semi-structured interview titled Interview of Personality Organization Processes in Adolescence (IPOP-A, Ammaniti et al, 2011). The content of the interviews was transcribed and quoted by the manual coding proposed by the authors interview. Results: The analysis of the data suggest that the Portuguese version of IPOP-A presents good results regarding to the internal consistency and can be considered a valid tool to differentiate between a teenager with personality disorder and a teenager with a normative character.
