sujeitos. Para testar as hipóteses colocadas, foi utilizado o IPPA (Inventory of Parent and Peer
ABSTRACT: The present investigation work aims to evaluate the influence of being an only child or to have siblings in the attachment to the parental figures and the peers of early adolescent boys. Starting on the theory of Bowlby about attachment, we carried through a comparative study, of quantitative methodology, for which two groups of early adolescents between 12 and 14 years old had been constituted: the group of the only children with 53 subjects and the group of youngsters with siblings with 131 subjects. To test the hypotheses placed, was used the IPPA (Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment) of Armsden and Greenberg (1987), in a portuguese adapted version. The sample was collected in two schools in Sintra. The achieved results didn’t allowed to confirm the placed hypotheses, but we evidenced that the process of individuation in relation to parents happens in a different way between the group of only children and the group of youngsters with siblings.
