Obesity has been declared the epidemic of the 21st century by being associated to several non-communicable diseases. Health-related risk perceptions can be a reason for behavior change. Being in a relationship can become a positive factor for the adoption of healthy behaviors considering that couples can share meals together, as well as the communication style that couples adopt, will influence the joint results of the couple. The aim of this study was to analyze how the risk perception influences the frequency of discussion among overweight and obese couples. The final sample consisted in a total of 37 couples. The Restructure Dyadic Data website was used to convert the data from an individual structure to a dyad structure, with the converted data, the effect of Perception of Risk of the Own and of the Partner was analyzed through the APIM model. There were no significant differences in the frequency of discussion between men and women about topics related to weight loss. In the analysis of the actor and partner effect in relation to the perception of risk of the self and the partner, comparing men and women, no significant differences were observed. Although there is a vast literature on obesity and overweight, the focus is mostly on the individual and not on the couple, hence the importance of continuing to develop studies in this line of research. Thus, it is concluded that the perception of risk does not influence the frequency of the couple's discussion.
