Abstract(s)
Neste artigo é proposta uma revisão dos estudos
interculturais e de desenvolvimento, como forma de
esclarecer as estruturas e funções envolvidas no
processamento visual de representações gráficas. São
consideradas quatro hipóteses explicativas: (1)
perceptivamente os objectos tridimensionais e os
ícones são equivalentes e envolvem os mesmos
mecanismos gerais; (2) é necessária a intervenção de
estruturas cognitivas aprendidas e especializadas; (3)
após um período de aprendizagem as representações
gráficas são processadas de forma exclusivamente
perceptiva; (4) Existe uma gradação da segunda para
a terceira hipótese, dependente de especificidade de
cada sistema de produção gráfica. A revisão dos
estudos experimentais aponta para a exclusão da
primeira hipótese. Porém, o tipo de aprendizagem
envolvida e as modalidades exactas de processamento,
perceptivas ou cognitivas, constituem questões em
aberto. Tendo em conta as dificuldades metodológicas,
identificáveis nos estudos inter-culturais e de
desenvolvimento, é defendida a necessidade de uma
abordagem computacional, organizadora das variáveis
presentes no processamento de representações
gráficas.
ABSTRACT: In this article, a revision of intercultural and development studies, as a way to enlight structures and functions which are involved in the pictures visual processing, is proposed. Four explaining hypothesis are considered (I) perceptively, tndimensional objects and pictures are equivalent and involve the same general mechanisms; (2) it is necessary the intervention of learned and specialized cognitive structures; (3) after a learning period, pictures are processed in a exclusively perceptive way; and, (4) there is a graduation from the second to the third hypothesis, depending on the specificity of each system of picture production. The revision of experimental studies indicates the exclusion of the first hypothesis. However, the type of learning involved and the exact means of processing, either perceptive or cognitive, are still opened questions. Considering the methodological difficulties in intercultural and development studies, the necessity of a computational approach which may organize present variables in pictures processing is defended.
