Resumo: Occupational fatigue has been considered a major contribution to decreases in well-being and performance in a variety of industries. The objective of the chapter is to review the main issues associated with occupational fatigue and to consider the implications for the globalized aviation industry. Fatigue management in aviation has been associated with rostering practices, countermeasures and the development of international regulations. Recently research has proposed that prescriptive approaches should be replaced with more proactive perspectives, a philosophy that underlies the Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
